first_imgDropping a game-changer like Virat Kohli can have serious consequences which is exactly what the West Indies realised as the best batsman in the format made them pay dearly by scoring a match-winning hundred to help India seal the ODI series in Port of Spain on Wednesday.India rode on Kohli’s 114 not out and Shreyas Iyer’s quickfire 65 off 41 balls to beat West Indies by 6 wickets with 15 balls to spare (DLS) as they comfortably chased down the revised target of 255 in 32.3 overs. The Windies had put India under pressure early when Rohit Sharma was run out for 10 in the third over and they had the chance to add to India’s misery by getting rid of their batting mainstay in the sixth over.Keemo Paul’s fourth delivery saw Kohli get an inside edge which carried easily to the wicketkeeper Shai Hope, but he failed to latch on to the ball and dropped an absolute sitter.Kohli was batting on 11 at the time and he went on to score his 43rd ODI hundred and second in succession in the series to lead India to victory.Windies captain Jason Holder acknowledged after the match that dropping Kohli was their biggest mistake in the match.”I think the batters did a reasonable job. I thought we were always in the game. We put Kohli down early and he made us pay. We have let ourselves down a lot in the recent past. It’s a matter of us to really sit down and think.”There is a lot of work to be done at a level below us as well. Our regional cricket is not up to the mark as that of the rest of the world,” Holder said at the post-match presentation.advertisementIndia are yet to lose a match on this tour with the Men in Blue having swept the T20I series 3-0 before they clinched the ODI series 2-0 on Wednesday. The two teams will now turn their focus on the upcoming two-match Test series which starts with the first match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on August 22. But before the series, India will play a tour match at Coolidge from August 17 to 19.Also Read | Virat Kohli 1st batsman to score 20,000 international runs in a decadeAlso Read | Shreyas Iyer took pressure off me: Virat Kohli after India win 3rd ODI vs West IndiesAlso Read | Virat Kohli’s 43rd ODI hundred gives India 2-0 win in ODI series vs West Indieslast_img
