Making Large Data Sets Easy like Sunday Morning with the New PowerEdge R740xd2

first_img[1] Based on Dell EMC Internal Analysis, November 2018[2] Based on Dell EMC internal analysis, October 2018. Hour calculations simulated using the R740xd2 with 24 active drives and 2 spares drives per chassis and RAID 6 configuration with HD 720P resolution, 10 FPS, 16K per frame and 700 cameras.  Actual results will vary.[3]Based on internal Dell EMC analysis, October 2018, using the Microsoft Exchange Server calculator, mailbox configured with 10GB mailbox quota running R740xd2 with Microsoft Exchange 2016, 192GB memory, 2 x 12c processors and 24 x 12TB drives. Actual results will vary. When we think of large data sets, Monday morning spilled coffee, traffic congestion and unpredictable delays come to mind. Cars and trains represent data traveling over the network at a rate that creates budgetary, space and performance constraints in the data center. Now for a sharp contrast, let’s visit Sunday mornings and think of foamy lattes, croissants and an easy-going pace. Enter the calming agent: The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740xd2 can turn chaos into order in your data center. The R740xd2 can help you rethink your approach to large data sets with an ideal combination of high capacity and performance in an easy-to-manage 2U rack.Designed for data-heavy workloadsThe PowerEdge R740xd2 is an enterprise content server that was built for data-intensive workloads like video surveillance, content delivery network, Microsoft® Storage Spaces, and messaging. The R740xd2 helps you deliver fast response times with up to two Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors. Large internal storage lets you abandon the maze of cords attached to multiple devices in your data center. With up to 364TB and 26 3.5” drives, the R740xd2 offers the highest raw storage capacity within the PowerEdge rack portfolio.[1] Fast networking and flash options let you fine-tune performance based on your changing requirements. Here is what Maurizio Davini, Chief Technology Officer, IT Center at the University of Pisa said about how the R740xd2 will help transform their data center:“At the University of Pisa, we have research centres that are continually accessing large data volumes. The PowerEdge R740xd2 delivers fast performance by bringing compute closer to storage and lets us address new data with large internal storage. Supporting a large Exchange database, hyperconverged applications and HPC storage in a 2U rack server is amazing! With just two servers, we can address most of our on-premise cloud and core services storage requirements — with ample space to grow. OpenManage Enterprise is the base of our central management system and PowerEdge R740xd2 integrates seamlessly, immediately becoming a part of our production infrastructure.”On Sunday, many folks like to sit back and watch their favorite shows or movies. If your organization has streaming media requirements, it is good to know the R740xd2 can store up to 500,000 high definition video hours in a single server.[2]  And say goodbye to mailbox quota alerts, one R740xd2 can support up to 50,000 10GB Microsoft Exchange mailboxes.[3]According to Fasthosts, one of the UK’s leading hosting providers, “The new Dell EMC PowerEdge R740xd2 server, with its increased storage (up to 45% more than our existing PowerEdge servers), would enable us to provide many more customer mailboxes per server, as well as larger mailbox sizes, while reducing the data centre and platform resources required to run email services.”Simple to scale, easy to manageMore data does not equal more management time. Respond effectively to data growth by scaling out to 7.2PB in a 42U rack. OpenManage Enterprise and iDRAC automate administration and help rapidly deploy new server configurations. The R740xd2 also offers front-serviceable, enterprise-class drives so swapping them out is a breeze. You can view status and set alerts for all attached physical and virtual disks through an intuitive interface. Minimize worry with a hardware warranty for Dell EMC drives and an option to choose the ProSupport extended warranty offering.Safe, on-premise storageKeep your data securely onsite and avoid rising cloud fees with high-capacity, cost-efficient internal storage. The R740xd2 provides layers of security to help you protect, detect and recover quickly from cyber attacks. Secure passwords and event logging protect your large data sets from theft. Authenticated, signed firmware runs on the server and components like drives and RAID controllers to help prevent mishap or mischief. It’s time to bring that Sunday morning peaceful feeling to your data center with the R740xd2. Grab a cappuccino and call up your Dell EMC representative to chat about how the R740xd2 can drive your data-intensive workloads.Check out our latest server updates on Twitter at @DellEMCservers and let us know about your large data set challenges and goals.last_img read more

Fire erupts at Brazil stadium that hosted World Cup games

first_imgBRASILIA, Brazil (AP) — A fire at a Brazilian stadium that hosted World Cup games in 2014 has caused damage and has left some people suffering from smoke inhalation. The fire department says the blaze at Castelão Arena in the northeastern city of Fortaleza apparently was sparked by a short circuit in the broadcast area though agency spokesman Col. Oscar Neto says the cause will be investigated. Television images showed flames and a column of black smoke rising above the stadium. It wasn’t immediately clear how many people needed medical assistance or if anyone was hospitalized. The stadium hosted six games during the World Cup including Brazil’s 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Colombia.last_img

Does wearing two masks provide more protection?

first_imgHealth experts recommend a single cloth mask with multiple layers, but doubling up on masks could offer added protection in certain situations. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends wearing a cloth mask made with two or more layers, and ensuring it covers your nose and mouth. If you expect to be around others indoors for extended periods, some experts suggests wearing a cloth mask as well as a surgical mask to achieve a similar effect as the N95 mask.last_img
